Principles of Design: Balance.

What is balance in Principle of Design?

Balance in design is just like balance beam we normally saw in traditional clinic.
Imagine one picture full of colorful bright colors, Do you think it will be nice to look at it? Don't you think is a bit too much? No one would like to see a poster design or painting which don't have a rest point. It will make the audience more dizzy and confuse or maybe even worse. However, everything should have its' own balance including taste, colors, contrast, light and shadow, and others.

For example, the flower below. It is blended with red, black and white. White part is consider a resting area which same goes to black. However, red colors are the major color in the picture. First of all, we can see on the right side which the white colors are located. It is full of tiny little flower petals which is we make it red or black, it will be too much. To balance it up, the artist put white onto the tiny petals which allow them to be balance.

Some goes to this cliff. The balances of colors and object in the picture.

Besides, there are a few elements of balances. First of all, symmetrical balance, asymmetrical balance and lastly radial balance.

Symmetrical balance also called the mirror balance which the left side of the picture and the right side is symmetry just like a reflection from mirror.

Asymmetrical balance is that balancing both side with different size of object or colors. Maybe on the left and right are big buildings while between them are lots of small buildings that are positioned far away which balance the picture up.

- balancing by colors
- balancing by value
-balancing by lines
-balancing by textures
-balancing by shading
-balancing by position and eye direction

Radial balance is the third type of balance where all the objects in the images or photo radial out from the very center.

Radial balance
